Holidays: Millenials and Over 65s share the same tastes

Both choose all-inclusive packages. Annual growth of +3.03% (CAGR 2024-2028). Market volume to reach $340.30 Billion by 2028.

In recent years, the holiday package market has experienced significant growth. Vacationers prefer to find “everything ready” without worrying about organizing the details of their trip and stay. The changing preferences of customers, influenced by emerging trends and particular personal situations, contribute to defining this growth. Surprisingly, it is millennials and the elderly who opt for this type of holiday. “Those over 65 are among those who prefer this type of holiday for convenience, security, and social interaction,” said Lino di Lernia, Co-Founder of Over, “and they choose facilities tailored to their needs.”

The Latin phrase “De gustibus non disputandum est” is widely known, meaning it is futile to argue about individual preferences. However, it is surprising to learn that millennials and those over 65 have exactly the same tastes when it comes to holidays: they prefer vacation packages. Data from Statista.com, the world’s leading business platform and market data provider, confirms this trend. According to analyses published by the site, by the end of this year, the global holiday package market revenue will reach $302 billion. The annual growth projections are +3.03% (CAGR 2024-2028), and the market volume is expected to reach $340.30 billion by 2028. The features driving the choice for this type of holiday are convenience and the ability to enjoy a hassle-free travel and stay experience, aspects highly sought after by users.

Globally, this trend is seen across different target categories choosing these vacations, and Italy confirms this preference predominantly among the elderly population. For seniors, it can sometimes be challenging to find the perfect holiday for themselves and their partners. Not all destinations and facilities fully meet their health, well-being, and entertainment needs. This is why more and more self-sufficient seniors decide to spend their free time and holidays in facilities specifically designed for them. Hence the growing choice to turn to what are termed Over-friendly facilities, ideal spaces where seniors can spend their summer in full relaxation without being disturbed by noise, commotion, and the hectic pace typical of summer months, especially in tourist locations.

Lino di Lernia, Co-Founder of Over, explained: “In our society, the elderly are often thought of as non-self-sufficient, resigned to the time that has passed, and alone. But that’s not the case. Today’s seniors are lively, full of life, and eager to find the right spaces to perhaps even make new friends. They don’t just dedicate their time to grandchildren and children but rightfully think about themselves and their own happiness. Over Senior Residence Sanremo, for example, is a space where guests can stay year-round, finding a facility ready to welcome them and meet all their needs for relaxation, beautiful surroundings, proximity to the sea, and social interaction.”

Liguria, particularly Sanremo, is the ideal city chosen by Over for its Senior Residence, and it is precisely in this region, the oldest in Italy, that new housing types such as co-housing and the opening of healthcare facilities to pets are being experimented with. Over Senior Residence Sanremo aims to promote new types of accommodation for self-sufficient seniors by offering an entire month of vacation as a gift to guests staying in one of the Residence apartments from September 1 to October 31, extending the stay for free throughout November.

This gift holds dual value: certainly, the economic aspect, but above all, it provides a new experience for the elderly, allowing them to test these new spaces firsthand, where attention to small details can make a difference. This gift eliminates worries so seniors can enjoy a complete and gratifying experience in a mild climate, lush nature, and, above all, a suitable facility, featuring a private pool for aqua-gym, a well-equipped gym for guests to stay fit and enjoy physical activities together, an Over Club where guests can participate in animation activities and events organized by the facility, and savor exquisite local cuisine recipes. This type of holiday for the elderly is increasingly popular in Europe and Italy and can be an ideal choice both for seniors who can experience something tailored to them and for families who know their loved ones are enjoying themselves in a safe and protected environment.
